"What to do when storing an INKJET printer?" So if you have an inkjet printer with an inkjet cartridge which has an incorporated print head, then you can easily replace the cartridge even after a year of non use and you will be ready to print. However, assuming you are wanting to store an inkjet printer which has a FIXED or REMOVABLE print head, for just a few months or much longer then... You basically have 2 choices... You can LEAVE THE INKS IN PLACE AND STORE as is, or FLUSH IT WITH DISTILLED WATER. Below you will find recommendations for storing: (any printer with a removable print head.) EG: CANON, HP, OLIVETTI etc... or for an inkjet printer with a FIXED print head like... EPSON & WIDE FORMAT PRINTERS go to just below No 13. Regardless of printer though if you do intend to... A.) LEAVE THE INKS IN PLACE AND STORE? Remember to switch off the printer correctly to make sure the inks are on top of the cap assembly (in the PARKED POSITION). Here rubber seals under the print head will act to protect the print head automatically. Even if your inks are empty... NEVER REMOVE THE INKS! When printer is next required... Simply use a "Magic Inkjet Flush Kit" (Available from http://magicinkjetflush.com) and unclog the print head as required. (BUT NEVER FLUSH WITH MAGIC INKJET FLUSH UNLESS YOU INTEND TO PRINT SOON AFTER) or alternatively... B.) FLUSH WITH DISTILLED WATER ONLY! For CANON, HP Olivetti etc... (Removable print heads only!) Please follow instructions below. 1.) First use warm "Magic Inkjet Flush" to clean and FLUSH the print head in normal manner. Do not leave Magic Inkjet Flush inside print head for more than 1-2 days MAX! How to FLUSH with DISTILLED WATER 2.) Inject warm distilled water into print head using the mini uncloggers or Magic Applicator. *NEVER USE TAP WATER! 3.) Using a downward flicking action. Completely remove any remaining liquid. & NEVER USE A DRYER TO DRY! 4.) Now wrap print head into a paper towel and safely place into card or suitable packaging and place into a plastic bag. 5.) Place inks into protective clips (if possible) and seal in a plastic bag. Do not cover them with paper towels or allow ink outlets to make contact otherwise they will bleed dry if (inner filter tips) are touching bag. 6.) Place all bag contents safely in a clean dry place with printer (maybe just inside printer lid if space allows.) Along with power cables etc... After storing Canon HP etc Removable print head... How to use printer again. 7.) Place Magic Applicator below each ink (1 at a time and wash each time and flush between colours with water.) 8.) Now place print head into a plastic bag 9.) Place Magic Applicator with removed ink onto correct ink inlet and inject ink. 10.) Then insert correct INK. 11.) Once all inks are installed 12.) Place printhead unit into printer 13.) Switch on printer and test. EPSON & WIDE FORMAT PRINTERS WITH FIXED PRINT HEADS: Basically again you have 2 choices... A.) Personally I recommend to LEAVE INKS IN PLACE AND STORE. Remember to switch off the printer correctly to make sure the inks are on top of the cap assembly (in the PARKED POSITION). This is not recommended unless you plan to store for more than 1 year. If so? Follow instructions below. 14.) Remove Inks 15.) Use a Blue Magic Pillow or place a folded paper under print head. 16.) Inject warm "Magic Inkjet Flush" to clean and FLUSH the print head in normal manner. 17.) Do not leave Magic Inkjet Flush inside print head for more than 1-2 days MAX! 18.) Instead FLUSH with DISTILLED WATER! Here is how... To prevent excessive fluids entering the base of printer... 19.) Using scotch tape/sellotape attach top of a sandwich bag to top of a sheet of paper and place into paper tray (paper side up) and instruct printer to print. When paper has fed half way through printer... 20.) PULL POWER CABLE! 21.) Slide print head into centre of track. 22.) Place a folded paper towel under print head. 23.) Ink is fully flushed. *NEVER USE TAP WATER! http://tinyurl.com/7s4xc5q 24.) Using clean Magic Applicator... Now inject AIR until all distilled water has been expelled. DO NOT USE A HAIR DRYER! 25.) Remove all soggy paper plastic bags and all expelled liquids. 26.) Do NOT insert inks! 27.) Instead switch on printer and wait until print head is in the "PARKED POSITION." 28.) Do not insert inks! Print head will now be sitting onto its protective rubber seal. 29.) DO NOT INSERT INKS or TAPE OVER POSTS... Instead cover ink inlet posts with a small bag to prevent dust from entering them. 30.) Finally store printer, inks, cables etc... into a plastic bag and store safely in a clean dry place. 31.) Remember to leave yourself a note: Saying print head is empty as it has been flushed! After storing... How to use printer again. 32.) Place Dr.EpSUN Refill Tool below each ink (1 at a time and wash each time after use) 33.) Gently remove a small amount of ink approx 2mls and place into a glass. 34.) Fill Magic Applicator with removed ink. 35.) Using scotch tape/sellotape attach top of a sandwich bag to top of a sheet of paper and place into paper tray (paper side up) 36.) Switch on printer and instruct printer to print. When paper has fed half way through printer... 37.) PULL POWER CABLE! 38.) Slide print head into centre of track. 39.) Now inject ink into correct ink inlet post to remove trapped air and fill print head with correct ink. 40.) Then insert correct INK. 41.) Once all inks are installed 42.)
